For 15 years ACT’s annual conference was confined to Auckland. This
year it is coming to you. We’ll be gathering in Christchurch at the
Piano from 1pm on July 23 (doors at noon).
The theme is Real
Change. It’s not enough to change the Government, we
need to change our country’s direction. It builds on the success of
our Dare to be Different and Honest Conversations events of
previous years.
The keynote is Elizabeth Rata, one of the bravest academics
in New Zealand, and one of the ‘magnificent seven’ who signed the
controversial (well, I didn’t think so) letter to
the Listener last year. Elizabeth is an
Education Professor and her keynote address will build on her decades
of work on education policy, and her writings about whether New
Zealand should be a nation state or the ‘ethno-state’ that some would
like to make it.
We’ll also hear from ACT’s MPs. Deputy Leader Brooke van Velden on
getting economic growth back, Nicole McKee on thriving communities,
and Karen Chhour on our Kiwi Identity. When these three spoke as
candidates in 2020, people started to say, ‘ACT is on to something.’
Having worked with them for nearly two years now, I think you’re going
to be impressed again.
And, the organisers are letting me give another speech! We will be
well past half way towards next year’s election. I’ll be setting out
our path to saving what’s left of New Zealand after Labour, and making
this country humm with the classical liberal values at ACT’s
heart.
If you support our cause, this is the time of year we need you to
show your support. Please rally and be counted, make this event a
success.
